Scope of the Workshop

    Germanium   is  a  widely  used  material  for   neutron
    monochromators. Pioneered by recent work  at  Brookhaven
    National  Laboratory, it seems that a  largely  improved
    quality  can be obtained when the crystals are assembled
    from plastically deformed thin wafers.

    Different  groups are trying to follow  along  the  line
    traced by BNL. We feel it would be advantageous for  the
    community to come together for a one day meeting and  to
    exchange  the experience in both the progress  made  and
    in  the problems encountered in making these devices.  A
    further   goal   of   the   workshop   is   to   discuss
    possibilities for future developments.
