Post-doctoral positions with the Neutron Program for Materials Research,
Chalk River
The Neutron Program for Materials Research (NPMR) of NRC's Steacie
Institute for Molecular Sciences is seeking candidates for post-doctoral
positions in experimental neutron scattering at Chalk River
Laboratories. At present, the research activities of the NPMR are
focused on materials science and engineering, biomaterials, structural
chemistry, surfaces and interfaces, magnetism and highly correlated
electron systems, amorphous materials, quantum fluids, disordered
systems and mineralogy. In the national user program the successful
candidates will carry out experiments in collaboration with scientists
from Canada and abroad in academia, government and industry. In the
commercial, revenue generating operation of the NPMR they will carry out
proprietary research for industrial clients.
Further information about the programs and facilities of the NPMR may be
obtained from the website http://neutron.nrc.ca
The NPMR operates six neutron spectrometers at the NRU reactor, Chalk
River, Canada's primary neutron source. The instruments are operated as
a national facility, open to all researchers whose R&D programs need
neutron scattering data. Approximately 100 researchers per year visit
the facility to make neutron measurements. The NPMR scientists are
engaged in planning new instrumentation, including a cold source and
guide hall, for a new reactor to replace NRU. Successful candidates
will be able to play a role in this planning process.
Applicants must have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in a science-,
materials- or engineering-based discipline. They must be able to work
in a team, but will be expected to show initiative in developing
individual research programs. They will work closely with the NPMR user
community and thus good interpersonal and communication skills are
essential. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable for
a second year dependent on satisfactory performance.
Persons interested in these positions should submit a resume to, and
