The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) invites applications for a
postdoctoral position in the Neutron Scattering Section of the Solid State
Division . A crystallographer is needed to develop a user program for
pharmaceutical and biological small-molecule studies using an existing
neutron four-circle diffractometer at the High Flux Isotope Reactor. The
successful candidate will work closely with the Structural Biology Group
(Gerry Bunick, P.I.) in the ORNL Life Sciences Division and the Neutron
Detector Development Group (Don Hutchinson, P.I.) in the ORNL
Instrumentation and Controls Division. As part of this two-year project, we
plan to add a two-dimensional position-sensitive detector for the neutron
four-circle diffractometer based on a scintillation concept using
wavelength-shifting fibers. The ideal candidate should have good computer
skills, interest in instrumentation design, experience with neutron
diffraction, and excellent communication skills. The High Flux Isotope
Reactor is a National User Facility, and ORNL is a multipurpose national
laboratory managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation for the
U.S. Department of Energy. Competitive salaries and benefits are offered.
The position is for one year with a possible renewal for up to one
additional year. The position is available immediately, and applications
will be evaluated on a continuing basis. ORNL is an equal opportunity
employer committed to building and maintaining a diverse work force.
Applicants should send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three
letters of recommendation to Dr. Bryan Chakoumakos
