Postdoctoral Position in High Pressure Physics and
                  Neutron/X-Ray Diffraction - PD983368 



The Los Alamos Neutron Science Center is seeking a postdoctoral candidate
to work on an ongoing project concerned with
equation of state and thermodynamics of metals, alloys, ceramics, and
minerals under high pressures and high temperatures. With
a mission to conduct high pressure research in support of the Science-Based
Stockpile Stewardship program of the Department of
Energy/Defense Programs, primary responsibilitites will include sample
preparation, in-situ high-pressure/temperature neutron/x-ray
diffraction experiments, data processing using Rietveld technique and
thermodynamic analysis. Previous experience with
neutron/x-ray diffraction and high pressure technologies are highly
desirable. The candidate is expected to publish the results of
his/her basic research in the open literature and present it at relevant

A Ph.D. in Solid State Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or related
fields completed within the last three years or soon to be
completed is required. Annual starting salaries range from $45,700 to
$49,300, plus a generous, comprehensive benefits package.

candidates may be considered for the prestigious J. Robert

Postdoctoral Position in Real Time Powder Diffraction -
                                        PD983372 



The Manuel Lujan Jr. Neutron Scattering Center (Lujan Center) of the LANSCE
Division is seeking a postdoctoral candidate in the
area of high intensity neutron powder diffraction. The project involves the
development and extension of methods for powder
diffraction to a variety of materials structure characterization under a
wide variety of conditions. Of particular interest are in situ
studies of chemical reactions under conditions of pressure and temperature
and in situ studies of the evolution of crystallographic
texture. It is anticipated that part of the work would be in conjunction
with the development of the new UC Materials Research
Diffractometer. Ability to obtain a DOE "Q" clearance which usually
requires US citizenship is preferred. For further technical
