Laboratoire Leon Brillouin - Experimental Scientist
---------------------------------------------------
The Laboratoire Leon Brillouin (LLB) is seeking candidates for a
post-doctoral position in magnetism and neutron instrumentation. The
successful applicant will work closely with the LLB single-crystal
diffraction group. Research activities are focused on the determination of
cristal and magnetic structures in f- and d-electron compounds, molecular
compounds, etc. Recent work has included studies of magnetic materials
under very high pressures (up to 7 GPa), and of systems with quadrupole
order.
The candidate will take joint responsibility for the effective operation of
one of the diffractometers and take part in the LLB user program by
providing support and advice to national and international scientists. He
or she is also expected to develop a research program on strongly
correlated electron systems in collaboration with the LLB group.
The ideal candidate should have a strong scientific background in
magnetism, previous experience in neutron diffraction, a working knowledge
in computer programming and structure refinement packages, and interest in
instrumentation design.
The position is for one year with a possible renewal for one additional
year. It is available immediately, and applications will be evaluated on a
continuing basis. Candidates must be citizens of France or another E.U.
country.
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, letters of recommendation, etc. to:

The LLB is a joint research institute established by the Commissariat a
l'Energie Atomique and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique to
promote the use of neutron scattering as a major research tool in
condensed-matter physics, physical-chemistry, material science, and
biology. More than 450 experiments are performed each year on one of the 25
spectrometers. In addition to the development of its own research programs,
the LLB is in charge of planning and realizing the instrumentation for
Orphee, a modern medium-flux (3 10^14 neutron/cm2.sec) neutron reactor with
14 MW thermal power. Its staff members (about one hundred scientists and
technicians) are also committed to providing support and advice to numerous
visiting teams from French and foreign universities and research
institutions. The LLB takes part in the "Training and Mobility of
Researcher" program of the E.U. and has been selected as one of the "Large
Facilities" for scientific research in Europe.
