This new role is to provide leadership to the technical team who operate and maintain the neutron
scattering facilities at ANSTO. Initially, emphasis will be on ensuring the current neutron-beam
instruments and ancillary equipment are available for use by scientific staff and visitors. From
2003, you will lead the installation effort for a further eight neutron-beam instruments with an
estimated value in excess of $20 million. 
As additional technicians are recruited, you will be expected to meld them into the team, fostering
adoption of a quality and safety culture and guiding their acquisition of the necessary technical
know-how. We expect that to be successful, you will have substantial work experience involving team
management in areas in which hands-on technical skills are used.
You will set up an Environmental Management System for Neutron Scattering and will have ongoing
responsibilities for maintenance of the quality system. You will also be responsible for all
technical liaison between Neutron Scattering and support areas within ANSTO.
