Post-Doctoral Position in Disordered Materials Research at IPNS

Argonne National Laboratory, one of the nation's premier scientific research
and development organizations, located 20 miles southwest of Chicago, is now
looking to fill a post-doctoral position in its' Intense Pulsed Neutron
Source (IPNS) Division, a facility dedicated to materials science research
using neutron scattering techniques. Applications are invited to work on
several fundamental aspects of the structure of disordered materials, that
are of both scientific and technological importance. The focus of the
project is twofold (i) the structure of fluids under pressure and (ii)
quantum effects in hydrogenous liquids. The successful candidate will
utilize and help develop the powerful method of isotopic substitution in
neutron diffraction and perform molecular dynamics simulations to aid in the
interpretation of the experimental data. The majority of the research will
be performed using the Glass, Liquids and Amorphous materials Diffractometer
(GLAD) at IPNS and conducted under the guidance of Dr Chris Benmore. Some
prior experience in diffraction techniques, or research interest in the
structure of disordered materials would be an advantage.  Candidates must
have received their Ph.D. not more than 3 years prior to the beginning of
the appointment in a discipline such as chemistry, physics or materials
science.
