INSTRUMENT SCIENTIST POSITIONS
NIST CENTER FOR NEUTRON RESEARCH
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY

The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR), at the National Institute
of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, Maryland, is seeking
qualified candidates to assist with the scientific programs on two cold
neutron spectrometers, the Disk Chopper time-of-flight Spectrometer
(DCS) and the Neutron Spin Echo spectrometer (NSE). These two recently
commissioned instruments are important members of the suite of cold
neutron spectrometers currently in operation at the NCNR. Collectively,
they give researchers access to more than six orders of magnitude in
energy, the widest dynamic range available for cold neutron spectroscopy
in the US. Responsibilities of these positions would include
participating in all aspects of operating these instruments including
assisting visiting researchers with experiments. There would also be
significant opportunities for independent and collaborative research
using all of the neutron instruments at the NCNR. Candidates should
have recently earned a Ph.D. in experimental polymer science, physical
chemistry, condensed matter physics, or materials science. The
initial appointment would be for two years with the possibility of
a one- or two-year extension. The salary range is $45,000 to $60,000,
depending on qualifications and experience.
