CALL FOR PROPOSALS-LOS ALAMOS NEUTRON SCIENCE CENTER'S MANUEL LUJAN JR
NEUTRON SCATTERING CENTER

The Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) is issuing a Call for
Proposals for experiments to be carried out at the Manuel Lujan Jr. Neutron
Scattering Center (Lujan Center) during the 2002 run cycle (tentative start
on July 1 running through December 24). Proposals for experimental research
will be accepted on the following instruments:

Spectrometer for Materials Research at Temperature and Stress (SMARTS)
High-Pressure Preferred Orientation Diffractometer (HIPPO)
Protein Crystallography Station (PCS)
Surface Profile Analysis Reflectometer (SPEAR)
High-Resolution Chopper Spectrometer (PHAROS)*
Filter Difference Spectrometer (FDS)*
Asterix (a polarized neutron beam for studies of magnetic materials)*
Transmission Spectroscopy (Flight Path 5)

Proposals will also be accepted for the following instruments, although very
limited user support may be available:

High Intensity Powder Diffractometer (HIPD)
Single Crystal Diffractometer (SCD)

*FDS, Asterix, and PHAROS will be "sharing" beam time in 2002, with number
of days available to be determined based on proposal submissions.

Three new instruments have been added to the Lujan Center and will be
available to users in 2002: HIPPO, SMARTS and PCS. More information on all
Lujan Center instruments is available at
http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/instrumentsuite.html
<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/instrumentsuite.html> .

The web-based proposal submission site, forms, detailed information and
instructions, and deadlines are on the Web at
http://lansce.lanl.gov/users/proposals/index_prop.htm
<http://lansce.lanl.gov/users/proposals/index_prop.htm> or contact the User
Office at lansce_users at lanl.gov or 505-665-1010. Travel assistance for
students is available via the STONE Program (see link on above web page for
more information.)

Proposals are due March 8, 2002.

We look forward to seeing you at LANSCE in 2002.
