Soft Condensed Matter Post-doc

We are looking for an exceptional postdoctoral appointee to build the
scientific case for a new type of neutron instrument [SERGIS: spin-Echo
Resolved Grazing Incidence Scattering]. The instrument is aimed at studying
biological membranes, wetting phenomena in soft matter and surface melting,
in collaboration with major research groups.
 
The successful candidate will assist to the realization of the
spin-echo-coils, presently designed and fabricated by a team from the
Max-Planck Institute in Stuttgart, and their installation onto the
EVAnescent wave spectrometer at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble. The
candidate will be the principal actor in choosing and testing the best suite
of scientific experiments that this kind of instrument should make possible.
If successful, a SERGIS-type of instrument is likely to be installed at the
Spallation Neutron Source.
 
Burning interest in science is expected; interest in soft matter is
preferred; some expertise in scattering and/or magnetic resonance is
welcome.
 
Candidates must have received their Ph.D. not more than 3 years prior to the
beginning of the appointment in a discipline such as physics, chemistry or
materials science.
