Workshop on Neutrons for the Earth Sciences 12 and 13 December 2002
-------------------------------------------------------------------
On the 12th and 13th of December 2002, the ninth workshop to discuss the neutron-beam
instrumentation for Australia's Replacement Research Reactor will be held at Lucas Heights. The
subject will be the scientific applications to earth sciences.
The purpose of the workshop is to:
- demonstrate the applications of these methods to Australian industry, government and universities,
and
- make a start on defining specifications for instrumentation and sample-environment apparatus at
the Australian Replacement Research Reactor.
The workshop is open to all participants, and there are funds to support travel for staff and
students from Australian and New Zealand Universities.
You can register via http://www.ansto.gov.au/ansto/neut/workshop8_reg.html
A list of some of the talks include:
Neutrons and the interface between Earth, Mineral and Materials Sciences, John Parise, SUNY Stony
Brook, USA
Recent Progress on High Pressure-High Temperature Neutron Diffraction Studies, Yusheng Zhao, Los
Alamos National Laboratory, USA
Title to be Announced (Simon Redfern, Cambridge University and ANU)
Applications of Neutron Radiography to problems in the Natural Resource Industry (Mike Middleton,
Curtin University)
Small-Angle Neutron Scattering and Petroleum Geology (Andrezj Radlinski, Geosciences Australia)
