[Neutron] ISIS vacancy - Software Engineer

Description

ISIS is the world's most intense pulsed neutron and muon source. A suite of
20 neutron and muon instruments provide facilities for an international user
community to perform experiments in Physics, Chemistry, Biology Engineering
and Earth Science. The Computing Group is responsible for the network of 60
OpenVMS, Windows and UNIX systems providing data collection, analysis,
visualisation and archiving functions. It is also responsible for desktop
facilities provided through 350 PCs running a wide range of applications.
The group now needs an additional member of staff to further develop
instrument control software and help support the computer systems.

Duties

*	Develop software for new devices and integrate it with existing
control software on MS Windows using Labview.
*	Support and improve existing control software
*	Assist in the support, development and maintenance of the computer
systems.
*	Participate in shared user support

 Qualification and experience

The successful applicant will have a degree or equivalent in a computing,
scientific or engineering discipline and experience of developing software
in a scientific or engineering environment. Experience of developing control
software in Labview is particularly useful and knowledge of a high level
language (eg. FORTRAN, C or C++) is highly desirable. Experience of UNIX and
Windows systems and applications is also desirable, as is a friendly and
helpful manner and an ability to communicate effectively to all levels.
Additional training in specific software and hardware systems will be given
where necessary.

Salary

Salary will be between £20,630 and £28,370. Salary on appointment is awarded
according to relevant experience. An index linked pension scheme, flexible
working hours and a generous leave allowance are offered.
