Neutron Scattering Instrument Scientist
(3-Axis Spectroscopy or High-Intensity Powder Diffraction)
(See http://www.ansto.gov.au/info/vac/vac2003/v2003_019.pdf )
You're invited to be part of one of Australia's foremost scientific research and development
organisations, focused on delivering the benefits of nuclear science to the Australian community.
Based in southern Sydney, our neutron scattering scientists are responsible for the operation,
research use, design, and development of a range of neutron beam instruments.
We are seeking a scientist to lead the team to procure, install and commission a state-of-the-art
neutron scattering instrument at Australia's Replacement Research Reactor, which will come on line
in 2005. Budgets have already been approved, conceptual designs are complete, and both the 3-Axis
Spectrometer and High-Intensity Powder Diffractometer are presently undergoing detailed Engineering
Design.
We want you to conduct a high-quality research program, in collaboration with Australian
universities, industry, other ANSTO divisions and overseas scientists. Possible areas can include
condensed-matter physics, magnetism, chemistry and materials science.
You will have a Ph.D. in condensed-matter physics, chemistry, materials science or a related area,
excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work both
independently and in teams. Experience at, or using, major neutron-scattering or x-ray synchrotron
facilities will be an asset.
The opportunity is for a three-year term with a possibility of extension or continuing tenure.
Selection criteria, application details and information on present and future neutron scattering
activities at ANSTO, can be found online at http://www.ansto.gov.au
If you want both career challenge and the best of the Australian lifestyle and feel you are right
for ANSTO, then send your details to neutrons at ansto.gov.au - we look forward to hearing from you.
We will be accepting applications until 16 May 2003.
