Dear Neutron Community,

FaME38 is a £3.3M (€5M) joint project involving seven UK academic
institutions, led by the University of Salford. The project started in
December 2001 with the principal objective initially to found, and now
to develop, the joint Support Facility for Materials Engineering
(FaME38) at the ILL-ESRF in Grenoble, France.

An excellent opportunity is available for a post-doctoral candidate with
a background in Engineering, Physical or Computational Science. The
post is an 18-month appointment with the post-holder being employed by
the University of Salford but based at the ILL-ESRF, Grenoble. The
successful applicant will focus on the experimental application and
development of neutron and synchrotron X-ray techniques to Materials
Engineering, in particular the determination of residual stress fields
in engineering components. He/She will be responsible for hardware and
software developments and will assist visiting research and industrial
engineers to prepare experiments and efficiently to obtain and to
evaluate neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction data. He/She will
join the established FaME38 team and work in close collaboration with
ILL and ESRF instrument scientists attached to the project. The start
date is negotiable, but as soon as is possible after 1 September 2003 is
preferred.
