Post-Doctoral Position in Soft Matter Science 


Argonne National Laboratory


 

 

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research fellow associated
with the Quasielastic Scattering Neutron Spectrometer (QENS) at the
Intense Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS). IPNS of Argonne National
Laboratory near Chicago, Illinois is one of the major neutron user
facilities funded by the US Department of Energy. QENS, through a series
of recent enhancement in the neutron fluxes and detector coverage, has
been serving users for the characterization of materials of interests in
chemistry, physics and biology - from dynamics/relaxations to phase
transitions to chemical/magnetic excitations in macromolecules, complex
materials and nanocomposites.

 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with
scientists from many disciplines who use QENS as well as to engage in
his/her own research. Additionally, participation in the development of
neutron instrumentation and data-analysis software with neutron
scientists at Argonne or from other neutron sources will be encouraged.

 

Candidates should have a Ph.D. Degree, preferably with experience in
soft matter sciences and scattering techniques.  Other desirable but not
essential skills are computer programming and simulations of material
properties.  Postdoctoral positions at Argonne are for one year
increments, renewable up to three years.
