Instrument Scientist High-Intensity Powder Diffractioninstsc
You're invited to be part of one of Australia's foremost scientific research and development organisations, focused on delivering the benefits of nuclear science to the Australian community. Based in southern Sydney, our neutron scattering scientists are
responsible for the operation, research use, design, and development of a range of neutron beam instruments.
We are seeking a scientist to lead the team to procure, install, commission and use a state-of-the-art high-intensity powder diffraction instrument at Australia's Replacement Research Reactor, which will come on line in 2006. The project has an approved
budget, the conceptual and engineering designs are complete and we are presently in the procurement phase.
Successful candidates will be expected to conduct a high-quality research program, in collaboration with Australian universities, industry, other ANSTO divisions and overseas scientists. Possible areas can include condensed-matter physics, magnetism,
chemistry, materials science and the earth sciences.
Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in condensed-matter physics, chemistry, materials science or a related area, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work both independently and in teams. Experience at, or
using, major neutron-scattering or x-ray synchrotron facilities will be an asset.
Applications close on 30 January 2004
