_Vacancy for a Scientific relations Manager_
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes 1700 visiting scientists per year to
carry out world-class research in solid-state physics, crystallography,
soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. Funded
primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany and the United
Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration agreements
with 9 other European countries.
The ILL is seeking to appoint an ambitious scientist to take up a
challenging position as:
*SCIENTIFIC RELATIONS MANAGER (M/F)*
**
This post is an important one, sitting at the boundaries of science,
research policies, administration and public relations. As successful
candidate, you will actively acquire a real and practical understanding
of the ILL's vast range of scientific and technical activities,
especially concerning the suite of public and private instruments that
use the ILL's neutron beams.
Assigned directly to the Director of the ILL, your main duties will be
as follows:
- Scientific relations issues: you will assist the Director in
all scientific relations issues.
- Scientific Council: as Secretary of the Scientific Council,
you will be responsible for preparing the agenda of the twice-yearly
meeting of the Council in collaboration with the Chairman and the ILL
Directors.
- Collaborating Research Group instruments (CRGs): you will be
responsible for the administration and the integration into ILL
operations of these long-term projects run by international scientific
teams.
- Science Policy Board: you will be a member and secretary of
the Science Policy Board.
- International Relations: involvement in establishing
high-level relations with representatives of European countries in a
drive to attract new partners to the ILL.
- Relations with other European laboratories: you may be called
on to attend meetings with representatives of other European scientific
research organisations.
- Intellectual property policy: you will be responsible for
ILL's intellectual property issues.
**Qualifications and experience:**
Highly motivated scientist with a keen interest in research management.
5 years' working/user experience at a neutron facility or some other
large-scale facility would be an advantage.
Language skills: excellent command of English and working knowledge of
French required; knowledge of German and/or another language of one of
the ILL's partners would be an advantage.
Excellent interpersonal and presentational skills are essential.
