Fixed Term Contract for 3 years
You will be required to work on an EPSRC funded project on single
crystal growth. The work will focus on the production of high quality
crystals of a wide range of oxides, borides, carbides and silicides.
These include superconductors, various low dimensional and frustrated
magnetic materials, multiferroics and compounds which are both magnetic
and superconducting. These crystals will be grown primarily by the
floating zone method using optical mirror furnaces and by flux growth or
other techniques as required.
The work will also involve the basic structural and magnetic
characterisation of the crystals produced. In addition there will be
scope for taking part in experiments at major international facilities
using neutron and x-ray scattering techniques.
You should have experience in one or more of the following areas: Solid
state synthesis techniques, preparation of single crystal materials,
characterisation of single crystals, physical characterisation
measurements at low temperature, *neutron scattering*.
