£24,161 - £31,525 pa
Fixed Term Contract for 3 years
You will be required to work on an EPSRC funded project on single 
crystal growth. The work will focus on the production of high quality 
crystals of a wide range of oxides, borides, carbides and silicides. 
These include superconductors, various low dimensional and frustrated 
magnetic materials, multiferroics and compounds which are both magnetic 
and superconducting. These crystals will be grown primarily by the 
floating zone method using optical mirror furnaces and by flux growth or 
other techniques as required.
The work will also involve the basic structural and magnetic 
characterisation of the crystals produced. In addition there will be 
scope for taking part in experiments at major international facilities 
using neutron and x-ray scattering techniques.
You should have experience in one or more of the following areas: Solid 
state synthesis techniques, preparation of single crystal materials, 
characterisation of single crystals, physical characterisation 
measurements at low temperature, *neutron scattering*.
