Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the following meeting.
ORNL Users Week
Oak Ridge National Laboratory, October 8 to 11, 2007.
This meeting focuses on the scientific resources of four ORNL user
facilities: High Flux Isotope Reactor, Spallation Neutron Source, Center
for Nanophase Materials Sciences, and the Shared Research Equipment
program. This is an opportunity for speakers and attendees to provide
an input to our future direction and capabilities.
The goals of ORNL Users Week:
1. Showcase the important scientific research challenges that are
being addressed at these Oak Ridge facilities by both users and facility
scientists.
2. Receive feedback on developments in next-generation
instrumentation, such as:
a. Developing time-resolved techniques suitable for studying
non-equilibrium phenomena at microsecond timescales, e.g. in pump-probe
experiments;
b. Multi-parameter sample environments , e.g., high magnetic field
and high pressure and low temperature simultaneously, biological
systems;
c. Multiple characterization techniques on the same instrument,
such as x-ray, neutron, electron transport, and mechanical properties;
d. Computational needs and capabilities for neutron scattering and
nanoscience;
e. Nanoscale synthesis and characterization; and
f. Environmental electron microscopy.
3. Acquaint current and prospective users with the research
capabilities of the user facilities through presentations, tours, and
workshops.
4. Introduce prospective users to the integrated user proposal
process.
For details on the agenda and important dates, confirmed speakers,
registration, scholarships, poster sessions, and tutorials, please visit
