Postdoctoral Position
NO. SF2007/27
The Berlin Neutron Scattering Center BENSC at the Hahn-Meitner-Institut
Berlin invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the
triple-axis spectrometer V2 / FLEX. The Hahn-Meitner-Institut is a
German National Laboratory and a member of the Hermann von Helmholtz
Association of Research Centres (HGF) and has about 800 employees. It
hosts the Berlin Neutron Scattering Center (BENSC)
(http://www.hmi.de/bensc/), a user facility open to guest scientists
from all over the world. To probe the structure and dynamics of
condensed matter, BENSC provides the national and international research
community access to state-of-the-art neutron scattering equipment and
expertise.
The position is open to post-doctoral candidates who hold a Ph.D. degree
in physics, chemistry, biophysics, material science, engineering or
similar with a strong background in experimental research. Experience in
neutron or X-ray scattering, NMR, magnetism and polarized neutron
techniques will be appreciated.
The successful candidate will participate in the research and
development work associated with state-of-the-art neutron scattering
instrumentation at the cold neutron triple-axis spectrometer V2 / FLEX
with polarized neutron and neutron resonance spin echo option (see
http://www.hmi.de/bensc/). She/he will collaborate with renowned guest
scientists from all over the world doing research in a broad variety of
subjects in the framework of the BENSC user program. She/he will
participate in the instrument development program to further enhance the
polarized neutron measurement possibilities at FLEX. The candidate will
also conduct her/his own research program in the field of condensed
matter research primarily using neutron scattering techniques, in
particular in the study of dynamic processes, elementary excitations,
phase transitions and relaxation phenomena in crystalline, soft,
nano-structured and/or biological matter. At BENSC 30% of the instrument
beam time is dedicated to in-house research.
Applicants should send a letter of application, a detailed CV, a list of
publications and copies of degrees to Hahn-Meitner-Institut Berlin, Abt.
Personal und Soziales, Glienicker Str. 100, D-14109 Berlin, Germany,
quoting reference NO. SF2007/27 (email: personalabteilung at hmi.de).
Deadline for the application: 5 November 2007.
For informal inquiries, please contact Dr. Klaus Habicht (email:
