[Neutron] Two further open positions (first beam line scientists) at SINQ, PSI, Switzerland

The Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) is a centre for multi-disciplinary

For the Swiss Spallation Neutron Source SINQ we are looking for a

First Beamline Scientist for POLDI
(the Pulse Overlap time-of-flight Diffractometer)

and a

First Beamline Scientist for ICON
(Neutron Imaging Device with cold neutrons)

POLDI:

Your tasks:
You will actively perform materials science research and support further
developments for in-situ mechanical testing at the beamline. You will
build up a competitive in-house research program at POLDI, being a
competent partner for internal and external users.

Your profile:
You hold a PhD in materials science, and have several years of  
experience
in using neutrons and eventually X-rays. You are a flexible team worker
who is able to work on different mid-term projects. You have the  
computer
programming skills required to develop new and improve existing user- 
friendly
software for data acquisition and data analysis. You can propose,  
carry out
and publish experimental research of the highest quality. You have the
interpersonal flair needed to successfully guide and assist external and
internal user groups. Together with colleagues, you help to update the
beamline hardware to meet new challenges. Excellent communication skills
in English and/or German and team oriented personality complete your  
profile.

ICON:

Your tasks:
Together with your colleagues you are responsible for the operation,
and the continuous improvement of the ICON beam line. You collaborate
with users and support them during their experiments. You develop and
pursue an independent scientific research program in the field of
neutron imaging using cold neutrons, based on state of the art
digital imaging systems.

Your profile:
You hold a PhD in natural sciences and have experience in neutron
physics, material research or image processing. Working experience
at a neutron source or with other image processing methods is
favorable. Experience with instrumentation would be of great
advantage. Excellent communication skills in English and/or
German and team oriented personality complete your profile.
