Tue Feb 19 22:22:14 CET 2008

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes 1700 visiting scientists per year to
carry out world-class research in solid-state physics, crystallography,
soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. Funded
primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany and the United
Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration agreements
with 10 other European countries. The Science Division currently has a
vacancy for a*:

*

*RESEARCH SCIENTIST (m/f) - Diffuse and inelastic neutron scattering -*

**

Working within the *Time-Of-Flight and High-Resolution (TOF/HR) Group*,
you will be co-responsible for operating and improving a neutron
spectrometer. In addition to carrying out your own active research
programme, you will be responsible for assisting ILL's visiting
scientists with their experiments and you will also participate in
operating and developing the instrument. Duties will also include the
promotion of scientific partnerships in your field of research.

We are particularly interested in highly motivated candidates with a PhD
in physics or chemistry and with knowledge of neutron scattering
techniques. A strong background in instrumentation, in particular
polarization analysis, is necessary. The post represents an excellent
opportunity for young postdoctoral scientists to develop expertise,
broaden experience and interact with leading scientists from around the
world. Applications from more experienced scientists able to obtain a
secondment period from their home institution will also be considered.
