The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes 1700 visiting scientists per year to
carry out world-class research in solid-state physics, crystallography,
soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. Funded
primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany and the United
Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration agreements
with 10 other European countries. The Science Division currently has a
vacancy for a*:*
*RESEARCH SCIENTIST (m/f)*
*- Nuclear and particle physics -*

**
**/Duties :/
Working within the *Nuclear and particle Physics (NPP) Group*, you will
be responsible for the instrument PF2 for experiments with ultracold
neutrons and will actively take part in developments of future sources
for ultracold neutrons. The present programme includes the search for
the neutron electric dipole moment, the accurate determination of the
neutron lifetime and various experiments in neutron optics and on
quantum mechanical phenomena. In addition to carrying out your own
research programme, you will be responsible for assisting ILL's visiting
scientists helping them to carry out and further develop their experiments.

/Qualifications and experience:/**
Experience and a strong interest in development of instrumentation is a
necessary prerequisite of highly motivated candidates with a PhD,
preferably in nuclear or particle physics. A firm knowledge in
low-energy particle physics and neutron optics would be useful.
Applicants bringing in experience from other fields, such as e.g.
surface science, are also encouraged to apply. **
The post represents an excellent opportunity for young postdoctoral
scientists to develop expertise, broaden experience and interact with
leading scientists from around the world. Applications from more
experienced scientists able to obtain a secondment period from their
home institution will also be considered.

**/Notes:/
Fixed-term contract : 5 years**
Generous company benefits (adaptation and expatriation allowance),
relocation assistance and language courses may be offered.
Further information can be obtained by contacting the Nuclear and
