Subject: GP SANS Post-Doc at ORNL

ORNL is seeking a post-doctoral researcher with demonstrated expertise
in the area of scattering studies of large-scale structures and
interactions condensed matter systems. A Ph.D. completed in the last
five years or soon to be completed in Physics, Chemistry, Materials
Science, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate should have
experience with either neutron or x-ray scattering techniques and in
modifying and designing sample environment equipment, and scientific
expertise either in preparing ceramic or metallurgical samples or in the
chemistry of complex fluids for solvent-extraction or the preparation of
nanophase materials. Experience with and knowledge of the SANS
instrument operation, data treatment etc. on pulsed neutron sources are
desired, though not required. Strong written and oral communication
skills and the desire to work in a team environment on scientifically
challenging problems are required. The successful candidate will spend
50% of his or her time participating in research to study the structure
and dynamics of materials related to energy production and environmental
protection using small-angle neutron scattering and 50% supporting
general user program experiments on the CG2 General-Purpose SANS at the
High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) in Oak Ridge.
