Recent experimental developments on the application of magnetic contrast
reflectometry to gold supported biomolecular films will be highlighted. This
method is especially applicable where deuteration of the component molecules
is either intractable or prohibitively expensive. The method takes advantage
of the requirement to incorporate a binder layer between the gold and the
silicon substrate. A magnetic layer is employed as the binder layer, when
magnetised this presents a different scattering power to polarised neutrons.
Two datasets relative to an external reference can be collected from exactly
the same sample.
