[Neutron] Postdoc position for EXED at Helmholtz Centre Berlin

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position at the Neutron Scattering Centre at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für 
Materialien und Energie, Germany. We seek a highly motivated young scientist to work at the EXtreme Environment 
Diffractometer (EXED). EXED is a highly innovative time-of-flight diffractometer designed for powder and single crystal 
neutron scattering research at extreme environments including the highest magnetic fields for neutron scattering 
worldwide. Together with the High Field Magnet project, EXED will offer a unique and dedicated experimental facility 
which will open up new applications for neutron scattering research at unprecedented high magnetic fields.

The successful candidate will play an active role in developing the research at EXED whilst also supporting the user 
program including conducting experiments with visiting researchers. Knowledge of neutron or x-ray scattering techniques 
is essential and familiarity with neutron instrumentation is highly desirable. In addition, a background in magnetism 
and programming would be advantageous. The position will allow the successful candidate to develop a strong scientific 
program by taking advantage of the excellent in-house capabilities including neutron and x-ray instrumentation and 
support laboratories, particularly those focused on magnetism research such as sample preparation (solid state synthesis 
and crystal growth) and characterization techniques, and physical properties measurements (thermodynamic measurements up 
to 17-Tesla and from 10 mK up to 1000 K). In the case of neutron activities up to 30% of the beamtime is reserved for 
such own research.

The Helmholtz Centre Berlin is a German National Laboratory and a member of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association of 
National Research Centres and has more than 1000 employees. It hosts the research reactor BER II and the synchrotron 
source. These user facilities are open to scientists from all over the world. To probe the structure and dynamics of 
solids and liquids, we provide the national and international research community with state-of-the-art neutron 
scattering equipment and expertise.

The appointment is for 3 years, although a long-term perspective may be discussed in due time. Applicants should send a
