The Technische Universität München operates the 
Forschungsneutronenquelle Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) in Garching 
which is one of the leading neutron sources world wide.

We invite applications for the

Head of Neutron Optics

The neutron optics group acts as a service facility for the operation of 
the scattering instruments at the FRM II. It designs and provides all 
kind of equipment to guide, filter or polarize neutron beams. Full 
service is provided to build and mount neutron guides, deliver 
polarising filters using 3He-cells, support the provision of crystal 
monochromators and operates a test beam facility in the neutron guide 
hall.

Managerial responsibilities include the leadership for seven staff 
members ranging from scientists, engineers to technicians. The 
incumbents are expected to initiate and conduct developments in the area 
of neutron optics in collaboration with international laboratories. 
Education in natural sciences or engineering physics, substantial 
working experience with neutrons and technological developments are a 
must. Perfect communication skills are required to represent the FRM II 
in collaborations and conferences on neutron optics.

The appointment will initially be limited to three years with the 
possibility of extension. The Technische Universität München is an equal

experiences a Habilitation may be supported.
