Project Description:
The Neutron Scattering Instrument Associate serves as the primary researcher for epoxy coatings and
bonding of the coatings in high radiation and high stress areas and assists NSSD personnel in the testing
and determination of the application process and application of these coatings.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Works with guidance from the neutron chopper engineer performing analysis and experiments.
Proposes and develops detailed testing plans.
Hands-on work in both mechanical and chemistry labs to implement testing plans.
Analyzes testing results and writes formal papers documenting the results.
Plans and leads in the testing and evaluation of new or developmental equipment used for e epoxy
application to achieve a flat and smooth surface after application.
May give work direction to technicians, craft workers, and less experienced personnel.
Qualifications:
M.S. degree in material science, chemistry, or related field, or B.S. degree plus 2 years of experience in a
science or engineering field. Good communications and interpersonal skills required. Ability to work in a
team environment required. Demonstrated computer literacy including proficiency in word processing
required. Direct experience working on neutron scattering related instruments is highly desirable. Must be
capable of working with scientists and engineers from verbal or written instructions. Must have
demonstrated the ability to bridge the gap between other technical disciplines. Periods of moderate travel
and off-normal work hours will be required.
Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of
application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. Applications will
