CALL FOR PROPOSALS
You are invited to apply for time on the neutron beam instruments at the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR). The deadline for new AND continuation proposals is August 17, 2010.

PROPOSAL SUBMISSION FORM
You must have an account, or create one, on the new NCNR Information Management System (NCNR-IMS) to submit a proposal. See our pages at http://www.ncnr.nist.gov for details. Also, please complete the Submit Visitor Registration Form NOW if you have any intention of submitting a proposal and subsequently visiting the NCNR. Our proposal form now allows you to upload the description of your proposed experiment as a pdf file.

Continuation proposals must be accompanied by an experimental report.

Quick Access Proposals may be submitted at any time, but are held to a higher standard.

Approved new and continuation proposals will be allocated instrument time in the period from October 2010 through March 2011. Starting in April 2011, a 10.5 month source shutdown will commence for a major facility expansion.

Please see our Web pages ( http://www.ncnr.nist.gov/call/current_call.html ) for details.
--------------------------------------
Instruments being offered in the current call for proposals are:

--Instruments supported by the Center for High Resolution Neutron Scattering

Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) - 30 m (NG3)
Ultra-Small Angle Neutron Scattering (USANS) instrument
Cold Neutron Triple-Axis with Polarized Beam Option (SPINS)
High-Flux Backscattering Spectrometer(HFBS)
Disk-Chopper Spectrometer(DCS)
Neutron Spin-Echo Spectrometer(NSE)
Multi-Angle Crystal Spectrometer(MACS)

--Other instruments

Thermal Neutron Triple-Axis with Polarized Beam Option (BT7)
Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) - 30 m (NG7)
Reflectometer - horizontal geometry (NG7)
Reflectometer - vertical geometry (NG1)
AND/R Diffractometer/Reflectometer (AND/R)
Neutron Imaging Facility (NIF)
High-Resolution Powder diffractometer (BT1)

-----------------------
Applicants should list publications resulting from use of previously allocated instrument time. There is a strict length limit of 8000 characters for the description of research section, if entered as plain text. If uploaded as a pdf, this section may be no longer than 4 letter-size pages, nor more than 600 kb in file size. Note the Tips on proposal Writing section in the proposal instructions.

IMPORTANT - Please inform us of any papers published or in press since August 1, 2009, that have resulted from NCNR instrument time or from collaboration with NCNR staff. Please send citation references to tanya.burke at nist.gov, including title, authors, affiliations, journal, volume, pages, and year of publication.

Additional information:

Some monetary assistance is available through an outreach program of the University of Maryland, for new NCNR users from U.S. universities (up to a maximum of $500). Preference is given to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. See details at http://www.ncnr.nist.gov/outreach.html
