Dear Colleagues

Prof Brendan Kennedy and I have a new postdoctoral position available at the University of Sydney, as part of an Australian Research Council-funded project into synthesis, structure and dynamics of solid-state ionic and mixed ionic/electronic conductors. The project will make particularly heavy use of the OPAL research reactor in Sydney.

The full announcement and details of how to apply are below. We would appreciate it if you could pass this on to any suitable candidates who might be interested. The closing date is April 4.

Kind regards
	Chris Ling and Brendan Kennedy

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN MATERIALS CHEMISTRY/PHYSICS

REFERENCE NO.142/0111

- Neutron scattering and synchrotron X-ray methods
- Collaborative research using Open Pool Australian Lightwater (OPAL) reactor at ANSTO
- Packaged salary $88K-$94K p.a.

The University of Sydney is Australia's premier University with an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence, and employs over 7500 permanent staff supporting over 49,000 students.
The School of Chemistry is one of the main centres for chemical research and education in Australia. We attract an outstanding cohort of undergraduate students as well as postgraduate research students to this vibrant and world class research environment.

We seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate with an experimentalist background and prior experience in solid-state chemistry and/or condensed matter physics. You will participate in innovative research involving application of neutron scattering and synchrotron X-ray methods to better understand the structure-properties relationships of complex metal oxides.

Based at the University of Sydney and closely working with Professor Brendan Kennedy and Dr. Chris Ling, you will be required to conduct experiments at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) having access to its Open Pool Australian Lightwater (OPAL) reactor which is a state-of-the-art 20 Megawatt reactor.

Some of the requirements are:
- PhD in Chemistry, Physics or equivalent discipline
- expertise in solid-state materials synthesis
- ability in crystallography – including Rietveld refinement of structures - experience in the use of major neutron and/or synchrotron facilities
- eligible for security clearance to carry out experiments at the OPAL facility, ANSTO
- ability to work well in a team and to conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision
- good written and verbal communication skills
- experience in writing research papers.

Prior experience in physical properties measurements using a QD PPMS in addition to ab initio simulations of materials structure and dynamics will be highly regarded.

This is an opportunity to join a well established solid-state and materials chemistry research group and to collaborate with a leading group of neutron scatterers in the Southern Hemisphere.

The position is full-time fixed-term for two years subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Further offers may be available subject to funding, need and performance. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

Remuneration package: $88K-$94K p.a. including leave loading and up to 17% super. Some assistance towards relocation cost and visa sponsorship may be available for the successful appointee if required and level of appointment will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

All applications must be submitted via the University of Sydney careers website. Visit sydney.edu.au/positions and search by reference number 142/0111 for more information and to apply. Initial enquiries can be directed to Fabrice Noël on +61 2 8627 1718 or fabrice.noel at sydney.edu.au
