Colleagues,
The LANSCE Neutron Scattering Schools are held each year and focus on a forefront topic involving neutron scattering research. The 2011 school (the 8th) will be held July 12-22 on the subject of Energy and the Environment.
Students at the graduate and postdoctoral level will be selected from the applications [see http://lansce.lanl.gov/neutronschool/ ] submitted by the deadline on April 15. Selected students will have all travel and local expenses fully covered by the school. Lectures will be given by world experts in neutron scattering and energy-environment related topics and these will be are supplemented by hands-on experiments using the Lujan Center neutron scattering instruments. The school is supported by grants from both the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Jim Rhyne, Deputy Director for Science of the Lujan Center, and Dr. Heinz Nakotte, Gardiner Professor of Physics at New Mexico State University have served as the school’s organizer and co-organizer since its inception. Dr. Greg Kubas of the Chemistry Division at LANL and AAAS Fellow in Chemistry will present the Banquet talk. Six other LANL scientists are among the twenty four lecturers who will participate in the school.
