Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, invites applications for a PhD student position in Materials Physics

Information about the position and scientific area
We are looking for a PhD student to explore the basic science of structure and dynamics of proton conducting oxides for environmentally friendly fuel cells. The primary tools to this end involve the use of neutron and synchrotron x-ray scattering methods, available at international large-scale facilities. The work will be conducted in collaboration with a range of different research groups at Chalmers, as well as with research groups at other Swedish Universities and at Universities abroad.

Job description
The majority of the student's working time will be devoted to his/her own research, with the main objective to obtain a PhD degree at the end of the project. For this purpose, it is expected that the student will be able to develop and pursue his/her own scientific ideas, and communicate his/her results in a wide context, through the publication of scientific articles and oral presentations at international conferences, for example. In addition, the position will normally include 20% department work, mostly teaching duties. The employment is limited to a maximum of five years.

Qualifications
We are looking for a PhD student with a Master degree and strong interest in physics and/or materials physics, or a related discipline. Candidates must have strong social skills, work ethic, and collaboration and communication (oral and written) skills. Candidates must also show great potential to drive projects independently.

Application procedure
Applications will be accepted through Chalmers webpage (www.chalmers.se) which also contains more information about the position. The closing date for applications is 2012-01-26, however, the review of applications will commence before that.
