*Second Annual Niels Bohr International Academy Workshop on ESS Science
: Bridging Elastic and Inelastic Scattering by means of Computational
Studies and Analysis *

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the Second Niels Bohr International Academy
Meeting on ESS Science which will be held June 25 - June 29, 2012 at
the Niels Bohr International Academy in Copenhagen.

The aim of the 2012 workshop is to delineate ways in which one can
derive a reliable picture of /'*where the atoms are and what the atoms
do'*/**in condensed phases. Experiments on atomic and molecular
structure by X-ray and neutron diffraction, or on the dynamics of
molecules by inelastic neutron scattering experiments, can be
interpreted by and combined with advanced computational methods,
Molecular Dynamics, Monte Carlo and Quantum Chemical calculations, that
are critical for an understanding of complex or disordered structures,
as well a description of the dynamical processes in the materials.

Detailed information as well as the registration form are available at
https://indico.nbi.ku.dk/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=395

The main focus of the discussions will be on the use of theoretical
simulations (both empirical and ab-initio) for the detailed, atomic
level interpretation experimental data from X-ray and neutron
diffraction as well as inelastic neutron scattering, on the structure
and dynamics in a wide range of materials.

Following the successful formula from last year, the students will be
given a small project and will be guided by the lecturers to a solution.
In parallel with, and following the school we plan to hold a small but
intensive scientific meeting on carefully selected topics of relevance
to the school and of current interest with extensive discussion between
experimental and computational scientists.

This workshop is sponsored by the *Niels Bohr International Academy *and
by the PhD School of the University of Copenhagen. There is no fee for
the participants, but attendance will be limited.

/The school is limited to 20 students to be selected from the
applications received. /

A limited number of students travel&accommodation will be sponsored by
the ESS Science Symposia.

Excursion and conference dinner will be sponsored by *the Øresund
Materials Innovation Community Program.*
