Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to

Description: symposia*European Spallation Source Science Symposium 2012*

on

*Physical simulations of processes in engineering materials with in-situ
neutron diffraction/imaging*

to be held on 15-16 November, 2012 in Prague, Czech Republic

http://ofm.fzu.cz/ess-prague

The aim of this ESS Science Symposium is to meet and discuss the idea to
build a dedicated engineering beamline at European Spallation Source to
be constructed till 2020 in Lund Sweden, where it would be possible to
carry out in-situ neutron diffraction/imaging studies during Physical
simulation of engineering material processing.

*Physical simulation of materials processing*involves the exact
reproduction of the thermal and mechanical processes in the laboratory
that the material is subjected to in the large scale industrial
processing, fabrication and/or end use. It is increasingly used in the
industry to optimize production routes as well as to develop new
processing technology and/or novel engineering materials in laboratory
scale and transfer the technology afterwards to the full scale
industrial process.

**

The symposium will bring together specialists from neutron and/or X-ray
diffraction community currently involved in in-situ engineering studies
(instrument scientists, developers of dedicated methods and users) with
metallurgists and material scientists who carry out numerical and
physical simulations of materials processing.
