The Chemical and Engineering Materials Division (CEMD) and Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) (http://www.ornl.gov/) have an immediate opening for a post-doctoral research associate. Applications are sought from highly creative and motivated individuals who will join an interdisciplinary team to study and characterize the formation of on Li-based battery materials. The project will involve preparation of materials, design and construction of electrochemical cells, and characterization using neutron/x-ray scattering, TEM and other advanced scientific tools at the ORNL Spallation Neutron Source and Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences.

Qualifications include the following: A Ph.D. within the last five years or soon to be completed in Material Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will have experiences in neutron/x-ray scatterings, or TEM experiments and data analysis. Previous experience in electrochemistry is desirable, but not required. The candidate should be self-motivated, able to work independently, and able to participate creatively in refining program directions. Presentation at national meetings and publication of scientific results in peer-reviewed journals are expected. The candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and interact effectively with colleagues. Applicants must complete ail degree requirements before starting their appointment.
