Instrument Scientist (m/f/d) TOFTOF and MIRA

17.10.2019, Scientific Personnel

In Garching near Munich, the Technical University of Munich operates the research neutron source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II), one of the world's most powerful neutron sources. The scientific instruments and the irradiation facilities occupy a leading position in the field of research with neutrons and their technical use. In the field of neutron spectroscopy we are looking for full-time 40.1 hrs/week two

Instrument scientist (m/f/d)

Your area of responsibility
They are jointly responsible for the operation of the TOFTOF instrument (time-of-flight spectrometer) or the MIRA instrument (three-axis spectrometer) at the FRM II. They work together with scientists and technicians from different working groups on the further development and renewal of the instrument as well as on the development and simulation of comparable instruments. Furthermore, you will pursue your own scientific projects based on the use of neutron scattering, especially in the field of neutron spectroscopy. For the instrument TOFTOF these projects should preferably be in the field of soft matter or life sciences, for the instrument MIRA preferably in the field of magnetism.

Your requirement profile
You have a degree (diploma, MSc.) in the natural sciences. Ideally, you have a doctorate and professional experience in neutron scattering, or other scattering methods to study dynamics in condensed matter. Experiences with the operation of neutron spectrometers and their simulation with Monte-Carlo methods are helpful. Excellent communication skills in international teams as well as fluency in spoken and written English are required.

The position will be remunerated according to TV-L and initially limited in time. Handicapped employees with essentially the same aptitude will be given preference. TUM aims to increase the proportion of women. Applications from women are therefore expressly welcomed.

You can obtain further information on the area of responsibility from the head of our instrument group, Dr. Wiebke Lohstroh, Tel.: +49 89 289 14735, or from the head of the MIRA working group, Dr. Robert Georgii, Tel.: +49 89 289 14986.

The deadline for applications is 15 November 2019.
