ESS is now looking for a DevOps Engineer for the Controls Infrastructure Group within the Technical Directorate.
The Integrated Control System (ICS) division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of control systems for the ESS facility including the linear accelerator, Target station, Neutron Scattering Instruments and building utilities management. The Controls Infrastructure group has the responsibility to deliver and maintain the IT infrastructure for the ESS control system and various systems.
Job description
We are looking for an experienced and energetic DevOps Engineer to join the Controls Infrastructure group. As a DevOps Engineer, you will participate in the maintenance of our software development processes, its specification and implementation of new features, updates and software lifecycle management. Your work tasks would include, but will not be limited to:
* Build independent web based tools (example Flask), bots, microservices and solutions
* Advanced programming experience in Python or Java
* Manage data sources like MySQL, Redis, Postgres, Redis, ActiveMQ etc
* Manage CI/CD pipelines including best practices
* Manage source control management of GitLab and JupyterHub environments
* Responsibility over Ansible role development with Molecule and testInfra
* Previous use code quality workflows (Sonarqube or similar)
* Develop, update and maintain existing code quality standards and other conventions
The responsibilities for the DevOps Engineer are:
* Technical lead role for the control system software infrastructure
* Implement, deploy, and maintain automated workflows (gitOps)
* Maintain in-house CMDB (Flask framework) called CSEntry
* Build and test automation tools for infrastructure provisioning
* Oversee and architect the deployment of software in production environments
* Monitor metrics and develop ways to improve services
* Provide technical guidance and educate team members and coworkers on development and operations
* Build and extend CI and CD pipelines
* Document and design various processes; update existing processes
* Improve infrastructure and application developments
* Follow best practices and procedures as established by the ESS
* Participate in cross-organisational working groups to reduce toil and improve software development processes
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
* Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, software engineering, or related field
* Minimum 10 years’ previous experience in development and operations
* Previous experience with software development
* Previous experience with self-hosted Kubernetes clusters
* Experience with Linux infrastructures,
* database SQL (MySQL, Postgres)
* CI/CD pipelines
* Coding experience in one of the following; Java, JavaScript, Python.
* Previous experience with Scrum/Kanban, Agile ways of working
* Up-to-date on the latest industry trends
* Experience of working in an international environment is essential.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period
