The Neutron Scattering group at the University of Missouri Research Reactor is seeking applicants for three open positions: a Research Scientist, a Postdoctoral Fellow, and a Beamport Engineer. Research Scientist - Neutron Reflectivity
Primary responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in operating and maintaining the MURR neutron reflectometer as well as work collaboratively on existing and emerging research projects and help research programs that will lead to external funding.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Lead the operation and maintenance of the neutron reflectometer at MURR
* Facilitate collaborative research at MURR using the neutron reflectometer
* Develop new research projects utilizing the neutron reflectometer at MURR
* Develop new capabilities for the MURR neutron reflectometer
* Publish research in peer reviewed journals
* Present research results at scientific conferences
Qualifications
Candidates are preferred to have a PhD and postdoctoral experience in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or related field.
* Strong background in neutron scattering
* Experience with neutron reflectivity experiments
* Experience with neutron scattering hardware
* Strong programming skills are a plus
* Ability to communicate effectively
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work as a tea

Postdoctoral Associate - Neutron Scattering
Primary responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to enhance the MURR neutron scattering program by contributing to ongoing and emerging neutron scattering research projects and to assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the MURR scattering instruments. There will be room for independent research that utilizes the instruments and capabilities at MURR.
Qualifications
Candidates are expected to have a PhD in physics, chemistry, or materials science by start of the appointment.

Beamport Engineer
This position will be expected to provide technical support on neutron scattering instrumentation, instrument control, and supporting equipment such as low temperature sample environments. This work will largely be focused on maintaining operations of and advancing capabilities on the four neutron scattering instruments at MURR and other beam port equipment in conjunction with neutron scattering scientists. One major focus will involve maintaining and extending capabilities in instrument control software.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Implement and troubleshoot electromechanical control for neutron scattering instrumentation. Maintain and extend instrument control software interfaces for neutron scattering instrumentation.
* Assist in maintenance of ancillary equipment (esp. closed-cycle cryogenic systems) for beam line experiments. Assist in mechanical support for neutron scattering instruments.
* Participate in development of new experimental capabilities for beam lines.
