Dear friends of neutron research,

during the German Neutron Scattering Conference (DN2024), which took
place in Aachen 16-18 Sept. 2024, four young scientists were honoured
for their outstanding research with neutrons by the German Committee
Research with Neutrons (KFN):

Dr Leonardo Chiappisi (Institut Laue-Langevin, ILL, France) received the
prestigious Wolfram-Prandl Prize 2024 for his outstanding research
achievements concerning neutron scattering and reflectometry on
polymer-based soft matter under high-pressure conditions. His activities
have not only enhanced our understanding of volumetric contributions to
polymeric and colloidal self-assembly processes, but have also provided
the community with experimental setups and methodology.

Dr Bruno Baumeister and Dr Christian Reiter (both TU Munich) received
one of two KFN Instrumentation Prizes 2024 for jointly bringing on the
way the conversion of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Research Neutron Source
(FRM II) to a low-enriched uranium fuel while maintaining its scientific
performance - a challenging task whose solution is attracting great
interest worldwide due to its transferability to other research
reactors.

Dr Paul Zakalek (Forschungszentrum Jülich) received the other KFN
Instrumentation Prize 2024 for his pioneering contributions to the
development of the High Brilliance Neutron Source (HBS), the world's
first High-Current Accelerator-driven Neutron Source (HiCANS). Among
other things, he developed its target and moderator, the heart of the
facility, which for the first time produced neutrons on the premises of
Forschungszentrum Jülich in December 2022.

We warmly congratulate the laureates and invite you to read more about
their research and the DN2024 conference on the websites of KFN, ILL,
