In particular, pay attention to the section*Beamtime allocation policy:
"two-thirds rule"*

News on instruments
*Find the latest updates in the “Latest Instrumentation Developments”
section on the webpage linked above.
In particular, please note that following the recent recommendation of
the Scientific Council, ILL management has decided to *restore IN8 to
100% operational status.*
In contrast, *D3 and D9 will remain at 50% operational time*, as per the
current strategic and scientific priorities.
*Panel meetings:* 14-15 April 2026
*Scheduling period: *Second 1.5 cycles in 2026
*Autumn 2026 call deadline:* 15 September 2026
Scientific excellence is the primary evaluation criterion. However,
providing complete and detailed information at the time of submission is
highly beneficial, as additional factors—such as industrial relevance,
the presence or absence of experimental reports, the proposer’s
publication track record, or links to PhD projects—may also influence
the assessment either positively or negatively.
************************************************************
Once again, the ILL is offering a way for accessing beam time for
projects that require a particular extended preparation period and
request instrument beam time of a reactor cycle or longer. *This
type of access is for the moment open only for PF1B, PF2 and FIPPS
instruments.
*
Proposals must be submitted to the ILL *by Monday 16 March 2026*,
via email to User Office <mailto:user-office at ill.eu> and meet
certain conditions, specified in the dedicated webpage
<https://www.ill.eu/for-ill-users/applying-for-beamtime/type-of-beamtime-access/ebta-proposals>.
*You should equally fill in the attached EBTA-Exp_template and join
it to your proposal.*
EBTA calls are organised on a *yearly basis* for the instruments
listed above. For the *2026 transition*, a *single EBTA call is
planned for the spring round*.
From 2027 onwards, the scheme is expected to follow a regular
annual rhythm.
We very much look forward to receiving your proposals and to working
with you in the coming year.
With our best wishes for a successful 2026,
The ILL User Office
