Dear colleagues,
we hope you all started the year happily, and for sure, you made some New Year's resolutions! One of them may be submitting an abstract for the Neutrons and Food 8. To give you a little more time, the abstract deadline was extended to Feb 16th - TWO WEEKS to go!
Find all details at e go.fzj.de/neutronsandfood8<https://iffindico.fz-juelich.de/event/19/overview>.
The Neutrons and Food 8 2026 will be held in Garching, Germany, from June 15th to 19th, 2026, bringing together experts in food science and technology as well as neutron scattering to discuss the current status, ongoing developments, and future perspectives in the field.
The worldwide interest in tackling vibrant research questions about food materials and processing, aided by scattering methods, is growing. Sustainability in food technology requires knowledge-based research and development, and the scattering community is a vibrant and active part, demonstrating with its techniques that gaining molecular insight into complex structures is exciting and important for further developments. In this conference, the colourful diversity of research with neutrons and food will be highlighted.
The conference consists of two parts: a training school and the exchange of the most recent research results presented through contributed and invited talks, as well as posters. The first day is devoted to the training school, featuring introductory lectures on scattering techniques and food systems. The other days cover talks and posters on current research related to neutron and X-ray techniques, as well as food. Furthermore, visits to state-of-the-art research facilities specialised in food science and technology and scattering are organised.
We warmly welcome contributions on the following topics related to food using scattering techniques:
* food components like proteins, carbohydrates, fats
* food colloids like emulsions, foams and gel systems
* food processing investigated via scattering techniques
* food and neutron imaging
* simulation of food materials or processes
* scattering techniques applied in food systems
* industrial applications of scattering
Talks and posters will be presented by renowned international researchers in the field to demonstrate state-of-the-art methods and applications.
The conference is organised by the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ), a collaboration between the Technical University of Munich, the Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, and the Helmholtz-Zentrum hereon GmbH.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Munich in 2026!
On behalf of the organisers
