Dear neutron colleagues,

We would like to invite you to an early science workshop dedicated to T-REX, the upcoming polarised bi-spectral direct geometry chopper spectrometer at ESS.

The workshop will take place on 17–18 September 2026 in Perugia, Italy, and is aimed at prospective users interested in exploring the scientific opportunities offered by T-REX.

Rather than a standard instrument presentation, this workshop aims to create a space for discussion with the community. We are particularly interested in hearing about scientific questions and use cases that could benefit from T-REX, as well as practical considerations that should be taken into account when shaping early experiments.

If you are considering using T-REX in the future, or are simply curious about its capabilities, we encourage you to contribute with an abstract or join the discussion.

The call for abstracts and registration is now open:
https://indico.ess.eu/event/3965

(The page will be updated shortly with details on location, accommodation, and other relevant information).

We hope this workshop will help align the instrument development with community needs, and we look forward to your input!

Best regards,
Mo Aouane, European Spallation Source ERIC, Sweden
Andrea Orecchini, Dipartimento di Fisica e Geologia, Università di Perugia, and Istituto Officina dei Materiali (IOM) CNR, Italy
Christian Franz, Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS), Forschungszentrum Jülich and Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ), Technische Universität München, Garching Germany.
