Venue: The Cosener’s House
Abingdon
Oxfordshire

Date: January 19 - 20 2009

We have recently been developing the application of magnetic contrast reflectometry to gold supported biomolecular films. This method is especially applicable where deuteration of the component molecules is either intractable or prohibitively expensive. The method takes advantage of the requirement to incorporate a binder layer between the gold and the silicon substrate. We replace the standard binders with a magnetic layer usually an Fe/Ni alloy. When magnetised this layer presents a different scattering power to polarised neutrons. We are therefore able to collect two datasets relative to an external reference from exactly the same sample.

The meeting will outline the method, present results from a number of systems studied and explore future possibilities of this method.
