<font face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif">A revision of the Neutron
Instrument Simulation Package (NISP) was posted on 31 December, 2009.
There are three major changes:<br>
<br>
1. The element type "Radial Collimator" had serious errors. There is
about one chance in four that any previous use of this element could be
wrong. If anyone has actually used this element in the past, I wouldÂ
encourage you to send me your Geometry file (or Instrument file) so
that I can advise you whether you encountered the error - the most
likely result would have been that <b>no</b> neutrons at all could
pass through the collimator, which would have been pretty obvious. In
fact, it is because a user reported this trouble to me that the error
came to light.<br>
<br>
2. The entire Help system has been updated to "HtmlHelp", since I
discovered that the old system (WinHelp) is no longer supported in
Vista or Win7. All files in the \Help folder of previous releases
should be deleted as being obsolete and superfluous. . The new <b>required</b>
files are<br>

While it was very time consuming to create/edit the 342 html files with
the individual help pages, it will now be much easier to maintain the
help system. Therefore I again encourage you to send me any suggestions
you have for improving the messages. If there is anything that you
don't find clear, or which is ambiguous, PLEASE let me know!<br>
<br>
3. The syntax of the code has been changed from "F77 with VAX
extensions" to a more strict F90. All structures are now TYPEs, and the
field delimiter is "%". Several non-standard functions have been
excised. Except for the use of "D" lines for conditional (debug)
compilation, the MCLIB and MC_Run codes will now compile in gnu F90, so
that users can run the Monte Carlo on any platform (after generating
the geometry file on a Windows system). This is one step toward making
the whole package portable - I would be happy to assist if anyone would
volunteer to do that!<br>
<br>
Other changes include making the precession precision a run-time
parameter which is passed to the Runge-Kutta integration, and keeping
the internal precession vector as REAL*8. Polarization may also be
tracked in an output file when the neutron moves in a magnetic field.
Any source type may now be forced to be polarized.<br>
