ISIS beam time applications for Oct.1995

ISIS BEAM TIME APPLICATION FORM FOR OCTOBER 95 

The next proposal submission deadline for the UK neutron and
muon source, ISIS, at the Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory, is 16th
October for beam time from April 1996. 

The ISIS application form (ULS1) has now been considerably
revised to include applicant status and research subject codes,
and an additional page (form ULS2) for EPSRC supported
experiments. The extra information required enables the funding
bodies of ISIS to more closely monitor applicants and their
science. 

Details of the neutron and muon beam instruments at ISIS, and
the names of instrument scientists, may be found on the
World-Wide-Web at http://www/nd.rl.ac.uk. 

ELECTRONIC FORMS: 

Hard copies of the new forms, including instructions (ULS3) for
completing them will be mailed soon. Meanwhile WORD 6 versions of
forms ULS1&2 are available, which may be completed "on-screen" on
a PC or MAC.   These may be obtained from the ISIS World-Wide-Web
server, http://www/nd.rl.ac.uk, under "News and Information on
the Neutron Beam", subsection "How to apply for beam time". 

File ISIS_b.DOT is a document template which replaces the earlier
ISIS_a.DOT.  It should be copied or saved to ISIS_b.DOT in your
template directory (e.g. C:\w\ww\template ). This will add the
form to the list of options in the "File", "New" menu.  The
template uses the "form field" features of WORD 6 to simplify
completion.  Drop down menus provide the user status and subjcet
categories as described in ULS3.  Graphics files may of course be
embedded into the text of the proposal within the WORD document. 
 
Please also copy and read carefully the instructions in file
ISIS_HLP.DOC. 

The two files may also be copied by anonymous FTP from
FTP.ND.RL.AC.UK as PUB/FORMS/ISIS_b.DOT and
PUB/FORMS/ISIS_HLP.DOC. 

Local to ISIS the files are in directory \\NDT01\BABYLON on the
PC file server, or in UK.AC.RL.ISISE::SYS$PUBLIC:  on a DEC-VAX. 

HOW TO SEND THE FORM: 

Please mail the printed proposal, as four A4 pages, or five if
you complete ULS2, fixed together with a paper clip, to the
address given on the form.  As an EXPERIMENT we would welcome
e-mailed WORD documents sent to CW92 at ISISE.RL.AC.UK, provided a
hard copy is ALSO sent by post, with a note attached saying that
it has been e-mailed ! 

BUGS: 

It appears that some printers object to the Palatino font used -
please edit the "style" rg4_pal to Times-Roman if you experience
difficulties.
