5. Optics of polarized neutrons
6. New techniques in neutron optics
7. Very low energy neutron sources
8. Other recent developments in neutron optics
INVITED SPEAKERS
It is our honor to introduce our planning to invite a special guest
speaker, Prof. Clifford G.Shull of MIT. As well known, he won
the 1994 Nobel Prize in physics. This exciting news in the Fall
of 1994 gave us a great impression of the developing field of
neutron science. We are expecting his special talk about his
own research history on neutron optics.
Further, the following speakers have accepted invitations to deliver
invited lectures.
V.F.Sears (Chalk River) Fundamentals of neutron optics
V.K.Ignatovich (Dubna) Multiple wave scattering and
optical potential
M.Namiki (Waseda) Quantum mechanical observation
S.A.Werner (Missouri) Gravitational quantum phase
shifts in neutron interferometry
H.Rauch (Vienna) Quantum mechanism in neutron
interferometry
A.Steyerl (Rhode Island) Fundamental physics with
ultracold neutrons
T.Ebisawa (Kumatori) Very cold neutron optics
M.Utsuro (Kumatori) UCN bottle for neutron decay
studies
A.Schreyer * (Bochum) Polarized neutron reflectometry
on magnetic superlattices
G.Badurek (Vienna) Polarized neutron interferometry

PREPARATION OF ABSTRACT
Abstracts (1 original and 3 copies) of papers for presentation should
be written in English and sent, together with an Abstract Submission
Form filled, to the address below by 31 October 1995.
Dr. Y.Kawabata
Program Committee
Research Reactor Institute, Kyoto University,
Kumatori-cho, Sennan-gun, Osaka 590-04
Japan
The abstract booklet to be issued at the Symposium will be reproduced
by direct photo reduction of the submitted text. It is important that
the following guidelines for the preparation of abstracts should be kept.
1. All text should be fit into a box of length 18cm and width 14cm, and
should be prepared using a high resolution printer or a typewriter on a
good quality A4 size paper with 35mm top and left margins.
2. The TITLE should be given in BLOCK CAPITALS at the top of the
page and should be centered in the text frame.
3. The authors' names should follow after TWO line spaces and should
not be indented. The presenting author's name should be underlined.
4. After a further ONE line space, the authors' affiliations should be
given, again not indented.
5. After TWO further spaces, the text of the abstracts should be typed
in SINGLE line spacing, using at least 12 pt typeface. Paragraphs
should not be indented.
6. After the text, and OUTSIDE the text frame, authors should indicate:
At the bottom left the suggested session for the paper, chosen from the
list of topics given in page 1 with number. At the bottom right the
name and address of the author to whom further correspondence should
be addressed.
Notification of acceptance of abstracts will be given 20 November 1995.
PUBLICATION OF PROCEEDINGS
The proceedings of NOK'96 will be published by Physical Society of Japan
as a supplement of the Journal of Physical Society of Japan.
Instruction will be sent together with the notification of acceptance
of abstracts. All papers should be written in English and will be
refereed. The length of invited and contributed papers should not
exceed 6 and 4 printed pages, respectively.
The deadline for the paper submission will be 20 January, 1996.
SUPPORTS
NEUTRON OPTICS KUMATORI'96 is supported by the Ministry of
Education, Science and Culture of Japanese Government, and will be
held as one of the scientific events on the re-organization of the
Research Reactor Institute, Kyoto University.
REGISTRATION
The standard fee for participants is 15,000 yen including the buffet
reception, light refreshments during the Symposium and the Proceedings
of the Symposium. The registration fee for students is 8,000 yen, and
it is free for accompanying persons.
The fee should be paid by cash in Japanese yen at the Symposium
Registration Desk, where the abstract booklets are to be issued.
All the participants should fill a Symposium Registration Form enclosed
and send it to the Symposium Secretary by 31 October, 1995.
VENUES
The Symposium will be held in the hall of the Reactor Utilization
Center and the conference rooms of the Research Reactor Institute,
Kyoto Univ. which is located in 2.5 km south from the Kumatori Stn. of
Japan Railway (JR).
EXHIBITION
There will be technical exhibitions at the Symposium. Companies or
organizations wishing to exhibit samples of neutron devices or panels
on the technical developments should contact the Symposium
Secretariat.
ACCOMMODATION
Participants are expected to stay in two hotels near Kumatori.
One is "Holiday Inn Kansai International Airport" and the other is
"Hotel New Yutaka". The former is one of middle class hotels and
there's no problem in communicating by English at the reception desk of
the hotel. The latter, on the other hand, is rather a casual hotel
whose rooms are comfortable for the charges. Each room of both
hotels has a bath room. The special discount (-10 %) rates with
breakfast each of which includes tax and service charge are as
follows:
HOLIDAY INN HOTEL NEW YUTAKA
EXECUTIVE \ 18,062 --------
SINGLE \ 14,492 \ 7,000
TWIN \ 24,905 \ 15,000
Young researchers ― students and young postdoctoral scientists can
stay at the dormitory in the Institute(¥ 850 per night) if necessary,
possibly in sharing twin or triple beds rooms.
All the participants who want to reserve the hotels should fill one
of the Hotel Reservation Forms enclosed and send it directly to each
hotel by December 15, 1995.
TRANSPORTATION
Most participants from abroad will arrive at either the Tokyo
International Airport(Narita) or the Kansai International Airport
(KIX). Domestic flights or Japan Railways connect both airports.
Kumatori where NOK'96 is to be held locates very close to the
Kansai Int. Airport (about 15 min. by a JR train).
MEALS
Lunches from March, 19 to 21 will be available at the Symposium
Center. Tickets should be purchased in advance. Breakfast and
supper on every day can be taken at each hotel.
VISAS
A valid passport is sufficient in most cases to allow entry to Japan.
In some cases, however, an entry visa is required, and participants are
invited to inquire well in advance, whether visas are necessary.
WEATHER
The normal weather of Kansai area in March is cool and sometimes
rather cold (the highest temperature:18℃, the lowest: 2℃, the
probability of rainfall:40%). It is the month of approaching to the
flower season from cold winds.
SOCIAL PROGRAM
The Local Committee is planning a one-day-trip to the ancient capital
NARA where one can enjoy old temples and a lot of Buddha sculptures
on March 22. Participants of the trip will have to pay some extra
charges.
Any other special arrangements for the accompanying guests are not
planning. However, participants should not hesitate to ask the
Committee for any advice about personal trips or others.
