Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neutron and X-Ray Scattering

                        McMaster University

A postdoctoral fellowship is offered in neutron and x-ray scattering
studies of topical problems in materials physics at McMaster University
with Prof. Bruce D. Gaulin. Problems of current interest include
geometrically-frustrated magnets, phase transitions in model biological
membranes, and heavy fermion superconductors, but the succesful applicant
may also carry out research in other areas of mutual interest. Research
facilities available include an 18 kW rotating anode x-ray scattering
laboratory at McMaster, access to user-programs at national and
international neutron and synchrotron-based x-ray sources, as well as
extensive crystal growth and sample preparation facilities.

The salary for this position is $28,500./yr (Canadian $), and it is
available immediately. This position is offered until January 1998,
and may be extended subject to availability of funds. A background in
experimental condensed matter physics or related fields is required,
and experience in diffraction or scattering studies is an asset. Interested
candidates should send their resumes, and arrange to have at least two
letters of reference sent to: Prof. B.D. Gaulin, Department of Physics
and Astronomy, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada, L8S 4M1.
