Civil, aeronautical, mechanical, nuclear or naval engineering (MSc/PhD or
equivalent). Strong theoretical background in mathematical and
engineering disciplines, with emphasis on computational fluid dynamics,
fluid mechanics and geometric modelling.
Good knowledge of English; basic knowledge of Italian or an undertaking to
acquire it rapidly. Knowledge of French would be considered an advantage.
REQUIRED AND DESIRED EXPERIENCE
Expertise of CAD tools and at least 2 year's experience in one or more of the
following areas:
- use of commercial or large packages for finite volume analysis of fluid
flows;
- mesh and model generation, post-processors and geometric modellers;
- experience in modelling two phase or free surface flows.
Experience in scientific programming (Fortran, and possibly C, C++, parallel
programming using PVM, MPI).
A knowledge of liquid metal or accelerator driven sub critical systems will
be considered an advantage.
FUNCTIONS
The position offers an opportunity to join a highly motivated team
working on the analysis and design of the thermohydraulics components
of a new generation of devices for clean energy production and
transmutation of Nuclear Waste (Energy Amplifiers).
The ideal candidate is highly motivated with interpersonal skills. He/she
will contribute to the development and the implementation of physical
models and numerical techniques into CFD research codes, with emphasis
on the integration of complex geometries from CAD tools and automatic
generation and control of finite volume meshes.
He/she should also possess the skills of an application engineer as opposed
to a code developer. The functions imply the application of knowledge at the
forefront of
technology and involve interaction and close collaboration with high level
specialists in several fields.
A two year renewable contract will be offered, with salary depending on
the demonstrated expertise of the successful applicant. This offer of
employment is in accordance with the current Italian "Contratto
Collettivo Nazionale di Lavoro per L'industria metalmeccanica
Privata".
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
CRS4, which is located in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy is a stimulating research
environment with more than 80 researchers working on different applied
research projects on simulation, numerical modelling, scientific
visualisation, and information technology. Furthermore, CRS4 has an
outstanding computational environment that includes an IBM SP2 and a
computing laboratory with various high-end workstations. For
information, see http://www.crs4.it/.
APPLICATIONS
The position is available immediately: applications will be accepted until the
position is filled.
Applicants should send a resume (English or Italian) including a cover letter
quoting Ref. EA.STR1 to Stefano Buono, CRS4, Via Sauro 10, I-09123
Cagliari, Italy. Applications should be accompanied by at least three
professional references who may be contacted directly.
For electronic submission of applications, please send e-mail to
