Postdoctoral Position Announcement in Materials Physics,
University of Virginia, Physics Dept., 382 McCormick Road,
Charlottesville, VA 22904, USA.
The department of Physics at the University of Virginia is advertising a
postdoctoral research associate position in the structural amorphous
aluminum and iron based bulk metallic glasses. The candidate must have
experience in the areas of neutron and/or x-ray scattering and computer
analysis and be able to carry out experiments at national facilities such
as NIST, Argonne and Los Alamos National laboratories. The research
approach to study the atomic structure of disordered systems will include
the pair density function (PDF) method, differential PDF and anomalous
X-ray scattering for element specific analysis. Structural measurements
will include high temperature and pressure studies of selected Fe and Al
metallic glasses to investigate phase transitions, microstructural
distortions, and structure-mechanical property relationships. Interested
applicants should have a PhD in Physics, Materials Science or related
subject. Applications including resume and 2 names of references should be
sent to Dr Despina Louca, University of Virginia, Physics Department, P. O.
Box 400714, Charlottesville, VA 22904 or electronically to louca at virginia.edu.
