Postdoctoral Position in Materials Physics using Neutron and X-ray
Scattering
Starting date: June 2002
University of Virginia, Department of Physics, 382 McCormick Road,
Charlottesville, VA 22903, USA.
The department of Physics at the University of Virginia is advertising a
postdoctoral research associate position in the area of structural amorphous
aluminum and iron based bulk metallic glasses. The candidate must have
experience in the areas of neutron and synchrotron x-ray scattering. The
successful candidate will lead a study to determine the atomistic structures
of Fe and Al metallic glasses, using the pair density function (PDF), the
isotope differential PDF and anomalous X-ray scattering techniques.
Structural measurements will include high temperature and pressure studies
to investigate phase transitions, microstructural distortions, and
structure-mechanical property relationships. Interested applicants should
have a PhD in Physics or Materials Science. Applications should include a
resume, list of publications and 2-3 names of references, and sent to Dr
Despina Louca, University of Virginia, Physics Department, P. O. Box 400714,
Charlottesville, VA 22904 or electronically (preferred) to
